Love it or hate it social media – including Twitter – is a huge part of modern living and just one of the many tools that a business needs to stay current. There are so many social media platforms it’s near impossible to stay on top of them all. Those that do – typically large corporations – have teams in place and social media experts who maintain their online presence.
I often meet small business owners who don’t like Twitter – preferring Facebook or Instagram. Personally I’m a fan of Twitter. It’s such a huge source of information and can easily be adapted to meet your changing needs and interests. It is also a great way to connect with businesses, customers and spread the word. One of the features I like the most is the brevity of tweets – they have to be a maximum of 140 characters (no waffling allowed!).
Here are a few of my favourites tweeters on Twitter and why I find them useful.
@richardbranson Is one of my all time business idols. I’ve read his biographies and found him a huge inspiration while I studied for my MBA. What a brand he’s created in Virgin! I like @richardbranson tweets because he mixes business with family with fun. He also has some great photos.
@deptforddame is a great way for me to keep up with what is happening locally in thriving Deptford South London SE8. New businesses, local developments, events etc. @deptforddame has her finger on the pulse of local happenings and delivers her tweets with wit. Additionally see retweets other local tweeters so provides a pathway to more information via her connections.
Those who know me well will tell you that I’m always harping on about “positive energy”. I like being a part of nice, happy experiences and gravitate towards positivity. @TheDailyLove provides regular positive tweets throughout the day on my Twitter timeline. Always something that makes me nod my head or feel instantly energised. I love me some @TheDailyLove!
